Pilot Pen, for many years solely a women's tennis tournament, was expanded in 2005 to also feature a men's tournament. Pilot Pen is the final tournament in the six-week US Open Series leading into the US Open and the only combined men's and women's event. Because it is considered a warm-up for the US Open, Pilot Pen draws many of the top names in tennis to New Haven, Connecticut.
