With more than a half million daffodils in bloom, the annual Meriden Daffodil Festival can certainly be called Connecticut's most colorful event. 2008 marks the festival's 30th year, and in addition to fragrant fields of yellow and white daffodils, you'll also find great music, arts and crafts, food, fireworks and entertainment for children.

Here's everything you need to know to enjoy this annual rite of spring.

Dates: Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 2008

Times: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location: Hubbard Park, Meriden, Connecticut

Admission: Admission and parking are both free.

Picture of DaffodilsWhat to See: Highlights of the weekend's festivities include a parade at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, fireworks Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. and many musical performances featuring headliner Eric Burdon and the Animals on Saturday at 4 p.m. Visit the Daffodil Festival Web site for a complete schedule of events.

Getting There: From the Hartford area, Follow 91 South to 691 West to the exit for Southington/Route 322. At the end of the exit, make a left onto West Main Street. Hubbard Park is on the left, approximately 1 mile from the highway exit. As an alternative, you may take 84 West to 691 East to the West Main Street exit. At the end of the exit, make a right onto West Main Street and continue as above.

Parking: As you approach Hubbard Park, watch for signs directing you to shuttle bus parking for the Festival. Parking is located at Platt High School on Coe Avenue and in Downtown Meriden across from the Meriden Police Station on West Main Street. Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from Hubbard Park from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Individuals with valid handicapped parking stickers may park in the designated handicapped parking lot and will be transported to the park via handicap-access vans.
